Jainmedu Jain Temple
The Jainmedu Jain Temple, located close to Kalpathy in Palakkad, is a unique and ancient religious structure showcasing the Jain presence in Kerala. Built around the 15th century by a Jain merchant from Karnataka, this temple is dedicated to Chandraprabha, the 8th Tirthankara.
The temple stands out for its distinct architecture, completely different from Kerala’s typical temple designs. It has stone walls, a large central sanctum, and detailed carvings reflecting Jain traditions. Situated near the Kalpathy River, the temple is a quiet, spiritual retreat often visited by historians and pilgrims.
Though small in size, Jainmedu holds great importance as one of the few active Jain temples in Kerala. The area around also reflects remnants of the once-thriving Jain community that influenced Palakkad’s trade and culture.
