Kollengode Palace, also known as Kalari Kovilakam, is a beautiful example of traditional Kerala architecture infused with colonial style. Located in the quaint town of Kollengode, around 26 km from Palakkad city, this heritage structure once served as the residence of the royal family of Kollengode.
Built in the early 20th century by Raja Vasudeva Raja, the palace features intricately carved wooden ceilings, wide courtyards, vintage tiles, and spacious verandas that speak of a bygone era. The palace grounds are surrounded by paddy fields and offer panoramic views of the Nelliyampathy foothills.
Though partially turned into a museum and educational space, the palace compound remains a prime example of sustainable heritage. It’s also used for Ayurveda retreats and heritage stays under some private heritage tourism initiatives.
