Nemmara Vallangi Vela Grounds
The Nemmara Vallangi Vela Grounds, located near Nellikulangara Bhagavathy Temple in Nemmara, is the pulsating heart of one of Kerala’s most spectacular annual festivals. Held every March or April, this festival features magnificent caparisoned elephants, melam (percussion ensembles), fireworks, and village rivalries in grandeur.
The venue turns into a cultural battlefield between the Nemmara and Vallangi deshams, both showcasing their devotion through chariots, processions, music, and decorations. The Vela is not just a visual spectacle – it’s an audio-visual explosion of Kerala’s folk, temple, and community traditions.
Visitors from across the globe come to witness this UNESCO-considered living heritage. Even when the festival isn’t on, the grounds remain a cultural marker and local gathering spot.
Festival: March–April (Annual)
Public Access: Daily, 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM
