Siruvani Dam
Siruvani Dam, located about 46 km from Palakkad near the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border, is a quiet and forest-shrouded dam famous for its exceptionally sweet drinking water – often ranked among the purest in India. Built across the Siruvani River, this dam lies in the lap of the Western Ghats, bordering the Silent Valley National Park and is surrounded by dense forests, tribal villages, and rolling hills.
Accessible via Mannarkkad, the dam area is managed jointly by the Kerala and Tamil Nadu governments. While entry is restricted, special forest permissions allow visitors to explore parts of the zone. The journey itself, through tribal hamlets and scenic views, makes it worth a visit.
Bird watchers, environmental researchers, and serious nature lovers often visit the area, especially due to its ecological richness, quiet trails, and views of the reservoir.
Requires Forest Entry Permit (Best time: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
