Overview

Elival Mala

Elival Mala is one of the most scenic trekking peaks in the Nelliyampathy Hills of Palakkad, Kerala. Tucked away in the majestic Western Ghats, Elival Mala offers a raw and exhilarating experience for those who seek untamed nature, mist-kissed mountain trails, and panoramic views that leave you breathless.

The name “Elival Mala” translates to “Tail Mountain” in Malayalam, and it stands tall at approximately 4,600 feet above sea level. This offbeat destination is a trekker’s paradise and a photographer’s dream. With winding trails, dense shola forests, and grassy slopes, Elival Mala is one of the top peaks in the Nelliyampathy range.

The trek to Elival Mala is moderately challenging and best suited for those with a love for hiking and a passion for the outdoors. Starting near Seetharkundu Viewpoint, the route takes you through evergreen forests, blooming wildflowers, and occasional glimpses of wild elephants, Malabar squirrels, and vibrant birds like the Nilgiri flycatcher.

Upon reaching the top, you are rewarded with sweeping views of the Palakkad plains, the Parambikulam forest range, and sometimes even the distant Anamalai Hills. During the monsoon and post-monsoon season, the mist rolls in, creating a dreamy atmosphere that elevates the entire experience.

Elival Mala is a less-commercialized destination, which makes it perfect for eco-tourists and solo travelers looking to immerse themselves in untouched nature. The best time to visit is between September and February for clear skies and pleasant temperatures.

For responsible trekkers and those craving Kerala’s raw hill beauty, Elival Mala is a must-visit.

Open Daily: 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM
