Overview

Kanthalur Sree Krishna Temple

Tucked away on the scenic Vellinezhi–Cherpulassery Road in Palakkad district, Kerala, the Kanthalur Sree Krishna Temple is an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Krishna in his Vishnu Sāṅkalpa form, facing east. The temple, part of the historic Olappamanna Mana legacy, is especially revered for its architectural purity and cultural significance in Kerala’s temple traditions.

Each year, a grand eight-day festival begins on Thiruvonam nakshatra during the Malayalam month of Vrischikam (Nov–Dec), featuring flag hoisting (kodiyettam), evening rituals, and community feasts. Other major festivals include Krishna Jayanti (Gokulashtami) and Thrikarthika, attracting devotees from all over the region.

Set amidst tranquil paddy fields and traditional Kerala homes, the temple complex brings together art, devotion, and nature. The serene courtyard, moss-covered stone structures, and the soft echoes of temple bell and hymns give this shrine its soul.
